Reasoning about Gender

Mr. Elliott Ruffin Crozat, MA

This paper is part of an EPS web project, “Philosophical Discussions on Marriage and Family.”

Elliott Crozat explores two views about gender.

One view he refers to as gender dichotomism. The second view as transgenderism.

Crozat argues that (1) the burden of proof is on the apologist of transgenderism to show why gender dichotomism is false, and (2) this burden has not been met.

The paper concludes by providing supplementary notes to clarify how certain terms are used in the paper.

Crozat forwards the points in this paper in the hope that they help to engender further dialogue in the spirit of Socratic elenchus.
